CASE: "ESTABLISHING MY IDENTITY"
Mrs. A. S. aged 42 year came in for consultation on May 19, 2000 with the following complaints:
b)Hyperpigmented patches on both extremities. More on the lower extremities. (Since past 3 months).
c)Urticaria: especially more on the upper limbs & the face (++). Recently, she also gets itching on the palms along with this complaint. This problem is worse when she is stressed. Itching < alternate days (+++).
d)"Colds"—lots of sneezing every morning lasting all day.
Past History: Depression, Polypectomy, middle ear atelectasis (deafness a year ago).
Life Situation:
She is an artist by profession. She is married & has a son (18 years). Her husband is an artist too & her son is pursuing fine arts too. She is very sensitive to someone talking loudly to her, rudeness & someone scolding her. She is excitable and had and episode of fainting, perspiration & a sinking sensation which was relieved by Coffee and Lemon juice.
If her husband jokingly tells his son " We need her work more than her, so tease her after she finishes her work." To this comment she would feel angry and says "You need my work more than me—you don't value me." Her husband says that she feels insulted whenever she does not get the amount of honor what she has expected.
She comments that " I am also something. Whatever you may be I don't care." When angry she trembles. She feels insulted at trifles.
She says " I must get the honor as per my status. I won't tolerate it otherwise & in such a situation I can be very insulting. I can get rude."
She has one younger sister & two elder brothers. Even before marriage she would feel that her siblings are getting enough honor and why is she not getting it? She actually wanted to pursue a career in home science or fine arts but her brother told her to pursue costume designing. She does not share a pleasant relation with her elder brother. She finds him very dominating and calls him a devil, get very angry at him. She comes from a male dominated family. Her husband comments " It seems that her identity has not been taken note of by anyone."
She loves to paint- glass painting & ceramics.
Dreams: Snakes, fearful.
She is more attached to daughters and girls.
Physical generals:
Desire:Oranges, Sour fruits (+++), Pungent/rich food.
Menstrual History:Regular, every 30 days, lasting for 2 days.
Before menses:Mild facial edema.
Odour:Offensive as if something rotting.
Thermals:Heat flushes & sense of heat.
Analysis: The features which I considered for prescription were:
a) Intolerant of even a joke & feels herself insulted, almost imagines herself to be insulted.
b) A feeling that her identity has not been taken not of.
c) Rudeness, insulting.
d) Desire for fruits.
e) Heat flushes & sense of heat.
On the above-mentioned points of the case I gave the remedy which I had proved in 1995—"Blatta Orientalis." I gave the remedy in MK potency, in a single dose. The remedy was given to her in late May 2000 or early June 2000.
QUOTES FROM THE PROVING:
Desire for appreciation, approbation & praise.
Desirous of having an impressive personality & status. A strong desire to be noticed. Need to establish one's identity, need for recognition.
Competing with people whom she venerated, desire to be at par with them and be noticed or appreciated.
Contrary behaviour in order to be noticed. Rude and harsh towards family member ( mother).Answers abrupt, curtly in a way to discourage other person from asking her anything.
Desire for fast moving fan. Air hunger. So much, heat that the radiating heat is suffocating to the person sitting next to her. Heat > cold bath & uncovering.
Palms, soles, upper limb hot to touch (objective heat).
Desire for something 'natural'—fruits (any kind).
Further, one can see in the proving that the remedy has a strong affinity for Ear,Nose, Throat producing allergic type of symptoms. Especially affects the upper respiratory tract along with the throat.
Also at the level of the skin we find linear urticaria-like reactions as after mosquito bites. (cf: Materia Medica below)
Hence a similarity at all the levels: The mind, Physical generals, the sphere of action, & the pathology can be seen.
Followup after 10 days:
There is a change in her mental state. Before the remedy she would get angry and react violently if even a minor mistake was pointed out in her work. Now she is more easy in that situation.
She is able to take teasing from her husband and son – does not feel offended as before, in fact she can now enjoy the whole thing as a joke.
Sneezing which was daily in the morning have stopped completely. Prior to the remedy she would have to keep a kerchief with her all the time and had to continuously wipe her nose.
Feels hot as usual.
She gives additional information: She has aversion to milk & milk products.
Plan: Placebo
June 14, 2000:
Complains of throat pain, cough & sneezing. Swelling of hands and feet before menses. Occipital headache > eructation. These complaints use to occur 2-3 times per week have now reduced to twice during the month.
Plan: Blatta O MK- single dose
July 11, 2000:
Skin complain is better.
Sneezing up to half the day.
Anger is reduced. Depression is less.
Plan: Blatta MK—single dose.
July 22, 2000:
Coryza lasted for 2 days but now is getting better.
Skin itching & redness better.
Edema of the hands better (?)
Husbands comments that she is able to tolerate criticism much better, takes I lightly and does not feel offended at it.
Plan: Placebo
July 25, 2000:
There is an epidemic of "cold" & flu-like symptoms in the city. Her complaints were as follows:
a) Headache, occiput—sensation of heaviness, must close her eyes which > (+++)
b) Must lie down.
c) Pain on those parts of the head which she lies on.
d) Fever, chilliness > cover
e) Thirst : small quantity of water.
f) Pain throat and face.
Analysis:

July 26, 2000
Fever better. Generally, better.
Patient repeats the dose of Silica MK herself.
Plan: Placebo.
July 27, 2000:
Cough as from stomach. Headache present. While coughing must hold the chest.
Cough > during sleep < while awake (+++)
Coryza – right nostril.
Desire: spicy food.
Aversion: bland food.
Dryness of throat must take water.
Head pain – right side- pulsating kind.
< lying right side.
> pressure
Feels hot , want to sit right under the fan, feels hot esp. on the face & neck with icy coldness of feet.
Perspiration face & neck profuse.
Plan: Silica XMK – single dose.
July 29, 2000
Cough persists (+)
Chest pain reduced, pain right chest & epigastrium
Feels very hot, takes bath with cold water
Head pain minimal.
Plan: Placebo. If no further improvement, repeat Silica XMK- single dose.
August 17, 2000
Has been well after the last episode of fever. Has no cough or sneezing after that fever.
Sleeps well.
No spots on skin.
Dreams nil.
Had traveled during the fortnight & has been having lots of work.
August 28, 2000
Sneezing reappear. Cough with headache.
Feels hot, since yesterday, compulsorily needs fan.
Was completely better till yesterday.
Increased dark spots on the skin (?)
Her urticaria has not troubling her any more.
Plan:Blatta. O. MK- single dose.
August 31, 2000
Face congestion with mild itching & burning sensation.
Sensation of heat reduced.
Colds better , but erratically do appear.
No cough.
Plan: Placebo.
September 13, 2000
Since today morning sneezing, colds & headache again. Has been having colds with sneezing once a week at least.
Skin pigmentation increased.
Cough (+)
Plan: Blatta XMK- single dose.
September 28, 2000:
Took Blatta O XMK – 2 doses, one week apart.
Has been well since then.
Swelling of palms since yesterday.
She reports all her complaints are better and did not take any medicines.
March 5, 2001
She took the last dose of Blatta XMK- single dose around October 2000. Since then not taken any.
Colds since 2 days, very mild.
No new skin spots.
Plan: Placebo.
May 26, 2002:
Has been completely well , with no colds or urticaria.
No new complaints.
Mentally has been well.
Don't think her atelectasis of the ear improved.
June 2003,
Has been keeping completely fine, she has not had the need to the take the remedy nor has fallen ill.
